Here’s where you come in:

As Country Director – Uganda, you will oversee the strategic development of all country operations in line with Engineers Without Borders-USA objectives. Engineers Without Borders-USA will establish a new program in Uganda in January 2019 to respond to the basic needs of refugee and Ugandan communities with respect to our sectors of expertise: water supply, clean energy, structures, civil works, sanitation and agricultural engineering. You are a highly accomplished visionary leader who combines proven business disciplines with inspirational management skills to effectively communicate global initiatives, cultivate relationships, and identify opportunities to successfully drive Engineers Without Borders-USA’s growth and development in Uganda.


Key Responsibilities:

·      Leadership and Strategic Management – Represent and promote Engineers Without Borders-USA’s vision, mission, core values, and best practices among the staff and partners and ensure these form the foundation for the country strategy and work plans; maintain overall responsibility for planning and implementation of all programs and activities within the country; lead country management team; maintain overall responsibility for staff working within country.

·      Financial Management and Accountability - Provide good stewardship and oversight over all resources at all times and throughout the organization.

·      Compliance and Risk Management - Stay abreast of local legal and regulatory requirements/standards and ensure the office complies with them at all times; ensure risks to the organization are identified in a timely manner and regularly reported to headquarters.

·      Safety and Security – Help create, maintain, and regularly review security and safety plans and procedures (i.e. security strategy, SOPs, contingency plan, incident reporting, and security risk assessments at national and sub-regional levels) and ensure understanding and compliance by all staff and visitors.

Requirements include:

·      Degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Organizational Management, Leadership, Strategic Planning or related disciplines. An additional qualification in Resource Mobilization would be a plus.

·      A minimum of 10 years management experience, five of which should have been at Country Director or similar level in complex development programming. Program experience with integrated programming areas (rural and/or town level infrastructure, WaSH, energy) desired. Experience in humanitarian emergency assistance is essential and volunteer management a plus.

·      Demonstrable record of accomplishment in working with and leading senior management teams.

·      Experience in managing diverse, strategic and time-sensitive projects (e.g. infrastructure, construction/reconstruction, staff re-structuring etc.);

·      Successful experience in overseeing large grants and working with government donors (USAID, UK-AID, ECHO, etc.), UN agencies (UNHCR, UNDP, UNICEF, etc.) and government structures.

·      Willingness to travel up to 40% of time.
